Welcome

The Society intends to contribute to the public processes and discussions of real issues affecting the citizens of Lake Park, FL. Residents can also learn civic practices such as voting, volunteering, jury service, joining with others to improve society, and impacting the Lake Park Town Council, its boards and commissions, and with the Town Manager in an inclusive and integrative manner. Civility and decorum will be exercised by Society participants at all times.

In 2024 – 2025, the Society intends to work on the following initiatives/projects. As developments occur with the Town Commission and other circumstances, we may add those issues to our roster of efforts.

2024-2025 INITIATIVES

Initiate public awareness of the Society (raise funds, gain supporters, appear at town events, etc.).
Create a voter registration drive. Create a jury duty information piece that educates residents about their duties, rights, and responsibilities related to jury duty service.
Advocate for Common Sense Town Budget. Promote more resident opportunities and engagement in the budget process.
Demand as many Enforcement Public Meetings as necessary and advocate to establish a Code Enforcement Advisory Board composed of some residents.
Advocate for the appointment of a non-voting Public Member to the Town Commission as a newly created Town Commissioner. Conduct 1:1 meeting with current Town Commissioners to garner support. Michael Steinhauer began consultation and networking with university curriculums about partnering/internships around public administration, public policy, civic engagement projects. An Intern job description has been created.
Establish a Lake Park CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team/Volunteer Organizations Assisting in Disasters (VOAD) resource. Network with Lake Park police, fire, Red Cross, Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center, elected officials, Publix, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. to establish Lake Park CERT/VOAD as a viable resource with trained, vetted, exercised and drilled volunteers ready to activate and mobilize at a moment’s notice.
